インスタレーション、絵画、絵本、パフォーマンス等、幅広い表現方法で独自の世界観を提案し続ける牡丹靖佳。 牡丹が作品を描くとき、彼の頭の中には小さな女の子がいます。何かは分かりませんが、欲しい「何か」がそこにあるという確信を持って、彼女は想像力の森の中へ分け入ります。欲しいものがあるかどうか、一体それは何なのかを確かめ、見つける為に。彼女を単に牡丹のオルター・エゴとして理解するのは少々短絡的かもしれません。牡丹作品の多くは夢のようにおぼろげな世界を俯瞰的に捉えたものが多く、姿は見えないものの、彼女もまたその世界の一要素に過ぎず、さらにもう一人の視点を感じさせるからです。その目が捉えた断片的な物語性が画面上に散りばめられることで、より大きな存在やストーリーを提示しています。それは神なのか、もしくはそれをも超越した何かなのでしょうか。また牡丹が「闇や恐怖、抗い難い大きな力」と語る森という存在は、物語の時間軸、すなわち「生と死」の象徴として捉えられます。様々なモチーフが自在のその姿を変えて連なる様子は、止めようの無い時間の推移を感じさせ、静謐な世界観に緊張感とリズムを与えています。 本展では、キャンバスに鉛筆と油絵の具で描かれた平面作品を中心に、牡丹靖佳の新しい世界観が披露されます。今まで当たり前と思っていたこの世界が、彼の手により再構築され、神話の中のような景色として表れた時、私達も彼女の後を追って欲しいものを見つけに行くことでしょう。

Yasuyoshi Botan, the artist who work with great diversity of media, such as installation, child book. performance and painting.
There is a little girl in Botan's mind when he is working on his painting. She walks into the forest because she knows there is something she really wants, even though she is not sure what it is. She walks into there to find it out, to find what her desire is. It is too easy to assume her to be Botan’s alter-ego. Botan captures faint, dreram-like scene with bird's-eye view. There is something that suggests another point of view besides the girl’s, even though you don’t see her figure in the scene. Botan shows us extreme existence by spreading the fragments of story. Is it God? or something more than that....
The forest, Botan describes it as “Darkness, fear, absolute power”, plays a role as a “time” in his story, which is a simbol of life and death. Various motif are continualy metamorphosed into others on the canvas. It suggests transition of time that never be stopped. We can’t help following the girl to find something we want when the new world of Yasuyoshi Botan is revealed.
