イー＊ロック/マンブルボーイ 展「Super Heroes」2007年6月14日(木)〜2007年7月8日(日)

本展のテーマは「スーパーヒーロー」。しかし、E*RockとMumbleboyにとってのスーパーヒーローは、スーパーマンのような典型的なものではなく、全く違ったリソースから創造されたものです。Mumbleboyは少年時代に見たウルトラマンや仮面ライダーを考えるのと同時に、古代日本の埴輪や土偶にも目を向け、両者のデザインの共通性に興味を見いだしています。又、モンスターはもちろん悪役として描かれますが、「自分たちが創り出すキャラクターにどんなパワーを与えようかと考えている時点では、ヒーローもモンスターも違いは無い」と、スーパーヒーローとモンスターの境界線にも言及しています。NY在住のハンナ・フシハラ・アーロンがキュレーションを担当。 キュレーターコメント：ハンナ・フシハラ・アーロン MumbleboyとE*Rockの作品はサイケデリックだが、ヒッピー文化ではなく、1980年代に成長してきた過程にインスパイアされている。彼らは、子供が魔法の国を作るように、初期のコンピューターゲームや子供向けテレビ番組をビデオ作品や段ボールの立体作品に織り交ぜ、色鮮やかなドローイングを描き出す。E*Rockはミュージシャン、レコードレーベルのオーナーでもあり、多くの作品は音楽から影響を受けている。両アーティストともVJとして活躍、様々なバンドのビデオクリップ制作も手がけてきた。今回の展覧会はスーパーヒーローやモンスターからインスパイアされたものです。

ハンナ・フシハラ・アーロン
1999年よりH.P.FRANCEに勤務。2000年より自身がプロデュースするショップHaNNaのバイヤー及びクリエイティブ・ディレクターを務める。HaNNaが銀座にあった2003年、店内にギャラリーを増設。店舗とギャラリーがひとつ屋根の下にあるというアイディアは、アーティストの手によるあらゆるものは、壁に掛けるものも、着るものも、アートとみなされるべきであり、全てアートに違いはないという考えに基づくものである。HaNNaが表参道に移転した現在もバイヤー及びクリエイティブ・ディレクターを務め、現在hpgrp GALLERY TOKYOのキュレーターも務める。東京に生まれるが、これまでほとんどをアメリカで過ごし、現在ニューヨーク在住。自らのアパートでLittle Cakes Little Galleryを運営し、New York Times、Artforum online、Tokion、The Journal、ANP Quarterly、V magazineなど多くのメディアにて紹介されている。Pratt Institute、School of Visual Arts、The Rhode Island School of Designで講義も行い、White Columns(ニューヨーク)、The Moore Space(マイアミ)、Yerba Buena Center for the Arts（サンフランシスコ）等で自身の作品展示も行う。アート活動の他にも、環境問題、動物権利、地域緑化に関わる活動を精力的に行っている。

エリック・マスト(イー＊ロック) Eric Mast (a.k.a. E*ROCK)
1974年 アメリカ、オハイオ州生まれ オレゴン州ポートランド在住 平面作品の展示やパフォーマンス、また様々なアーティストネームで音楽作品のリリースやリミックスをするアニメーター、プロデューサー、メディアアーティスト。他クリエイターと共にAudio Dregs Record-ings, Fryk Beat Records, The Collective Jyrk, Thumb zine, and Wyld File (Paper Radとのヴィデオプロダクションチーム)等のレーベルも立ち上げている。E*ROCKのアートと音楽は、カテゴリーを超越して影響し合い、アートギャラリーとロッククラブを融合させる。2001年以降、100以上のレコードジャケット、ポスターを手がけている。アメリカを中心にスクリーニング、展覧会多数開催。http://www.e--rock.com/

キンヤ・ハナダ(マンブルボーイ)

E*Rock and Mumbleboy exhibition “Super Heroes”
2007/6/14(thu)-2007/7/8(sun) The exhibition’s theme is “Super Heroes”, however, the superheroes for E*Rock and Mumbleboy are not typical character such as Superman but created from totally different resource. Mumbleboy turns his eyes to ancient Japanese Haniwa, burial mound figurines, and clay figures as well as thinking of “Ultraman” and “Mask Riders”, TV characters he watched in his boyhood, and finds interest in the commonality in design between both figures. Monsters are certainly portrayed as villains, however they mention about the border between heroes and monsters: “There is no difference between heroes and monsters at the point when we are thinking of what power to give to the characters we create. The exhibition is curetted by Hanna Fushihara Aron from NY. Curator’s comment: by Hanna Fushihara Aron Mumbleboy and E*Rock's work is psychedelic but inspired by growing up as a child of the 1980's instead of hippie culture. They mix early video games and children’s' television shows into their videos, craft 3-dimentional art objects with cardboard like children building their own magical world, and scribble colorful drawings. E*Rock is both a musician and record label owner and much of his work is inspired by music. Both artists have been VJs and have created music videos for bands. The show is inspired by superheroes and monsters.

Hanna Fushihara Aron
Works for HP France since 1999. Buyer and creative director for the store HaNNa since 2000. In 2003, when HaNNa was located in Ginza, the shop added an art gallery to the space. Her idea for both the store and gallery being housed under one roof was the idea that anything handmade by an artist whether it be something to hang on a wall or something to wear should be considered art; that there is no difference between "high" and "low" art. Currently still buyer and creative director for HaNNa which has relocated to Omotesando, and curator at hpgrp Tokyo. Born in Tokyo, but has lived in America most of her life. Lives in New York City and runs a gallery out of her apartment called Little Cakes Little Gallery. She and the gallery have been introduced in some media such as the New York Times, Artforum online, Tokion, The Journal, ANP Quarterly, and V magazine. Also lectured at Pratt Institute, School of Visual Arts, and the Rhode Island School of Design, and shown her own artwork at spaces such as White Columns in New York, The Moore Space in Miami, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Other than her love of art, involved in environmental issues, animal rights, and community gardening.

Eric Mast (a.k.a. E*ROCK)
Born in Ohio, US in 1974, lives in Portland, Oregon. Animator, producer, media artist. Performs, exhibits 2-dimentional art works, releases and remixes music in many artist names. Also established music labels with other creators such as Audio Dregs Recordings, Fryk Beat Records, The Collective Jyrk, Thumb zine, and Wyld File, a video production team with Paper Rad. E*Rock’s art and music rise above categories, influence each other, and merges together art galleries and rock clubs. Created more than 100 record jackets and posters since 2001.
