2007年、2008年に引き続きhpgrp GALLERY東京では3回目となる澁谷忠臣の新作展「教」
直線と独特の面構成でユニークなモチーフを描く澁谷忠臣が、自身の中に存在する
「日本人性」を偶像としてビジュアル化し、それらを自分を形作る「教え」と見立てて
世界観を創り出します。自分を含め、現代の日本人の多くは信仰心が希薄ではあるが、
生活の中に教訓、礼節、慣習という形で融合されており、その中で生活することで
”日本人”としての自分が作られてきたと語る澁谷は、社会の様々な均衡を保つ為に
拠り所として存在する偶像と、自己の作品の存在意義を重ねています。
ヒップホップやブラックカルチャー、また、インド、ネパール、タイへの渡航経験などから
大きな影響を受けながら、自己のナショナリティーを追求し、作品＝偶像を創り出します。
We are pleased to announce the opening of "Oshie (Doctrine)",
the third exhibition of Tadaomi Shibuya at hpgrp GALLERY TOKYO.
Shibuya who paints unique motif with sharp straight lines.
In this exhibition, he visualizes "Japanese-ness" as a doctrine that structures him.
Shibuya said "Many of today's Japanese people, including me, are very far from the faith
(to God or Buddha and etc...). However, it fuses in shape of lesson, propriety or custom in life,
and I as "Japanese" have been made from life in that. "
Shibuya feels that the idol that exists as a foothold to keep various balance of the society
and the significance of existence of his work is somehow very similar.
Hip-hop and black culture, under the influence of experience on travel to Thailand,
India and Nepal, a new exhibition of Tadaomi Shibuya to pursue his own nationality.

昨年の個展 「construct」から一年、澁谷の作品は動物や生物の形を借りて、更なる展開を見せています。今回、澁谷によって描かれた、一見ユーモラスでグラフィカルなイメージは、私たちの身近にいる動物の他、遠い過去に絶滅した生物や、極端に進化したロボット動物という姿で澁谷のオリジナル動物園を創り出します。また澁谷の筆により進化を遂げる生物達の一 瞬の姿は生き生きとした希望に溢れています。昆虫や恐竜にまで収蔵範囲を広げるその動物園では、生物の歴史的な時間軸を駆け巡る澁谷のイマジネーションをキャンバスという檻に入れて皆様に披露します。
"Shibuya Zoo" by Tadaomi Shibuya.
Shibuya reconstructs various motifs with greatly unique surfaces and
straight lines. One year since last solo exhibition "construct", his works
have been developed with creatures as new motif. Shibuya creates his
original "zoo" with usual animals, extinct animals and futuristic robot-like
animals. Animals who are born from his brush are active and full of hope.
Shibuya's imagination runs through the history of living thing and show us
not only animals but also insects and dinosaurs at his zoo. Shibuya's work
is highly evaluated internationally, especially in Europe.

イギリスを中心に海外で評価の高い澁谷忠臣の国内では初の個展「construct」
人物や動物、工業製品まで幅広いモチーフを「面」で再構成し、独自のイメージを構築する澁谷の作品は、一見シャープでフラットな印象を与えますが、手描きによる筆目や、色彩の微妙なむらが作品に深みを与え、独特の風合いを創り出しています。
両親が看板制作業を営んでいた事で、日常的に職人たちの手仕事を見て育った澁谷は、幼少の頃のロボットアニメブームに強く影響を受け、毎日たくさんのロボットや、メカの絵を描きました。美術大学ではプロダクトデザインを専攻、そのかたわら、ヒップホップに大きな影響を受け、音楽と平面表現の接点、アプローチを模索し始めます。その後、ダブ、ブレイクビート、ドラムンベースといった音楽に強く影響され、現在のスタイルを確立しています。
本展では、初期の作品から現在に至るまで，一貫して独自の手法によって築き上げられた世界観を展示致します。
Tadaomi Shibuya solo exhibition “construct”
Shibuya reconstructs various motifs, such as human face, animals, industrial products and etc. with unique surfaces. First it gives a viewer sharp and flat impression but they realize that it offers more, a deep texture with brush mark and uneven painted field.
Shibuya’s parents run a sign making business and he grew up with many craftsman. He loved to draw many robots and mechanical heroes when he was a kid. Shibuya majored product design in art college but he was looking for creative connection between 2-D expression and music under his interest to hip-hop. He was also strongly influenced by other kind of music, such as dub, breakbeat, electronica, drum'n bass and so on, to establish his own expression. Shibuya is highly evaluated in England and internationally. This is Shibuya’s first solo exhibition in Japan.
